Saxon the Sheparnese

This shoot with Saxon felt incredibly special for so many reasons. I first photographed him as a puppy at Margaret Green Animal Rescue, where I volunteer my photography services to help capture rescue dogs before they find their new homes. Seeing him again now, happy, settled and so loved, was one of those full circle moments that means so much.

Saxon was one of the 12 puppies who made national news at the time, so to have photographed him back then and then again now in this new chapter of his life felt really lovely. It is moments like this that remind me why I care so much about the work I do with rescue dogs.

For this session, Saxon joined me at Pamphill amongst the spring flowers and soft greenery, and he looked absolutely gorgeous. His colouring worked so beautifully against the bluebells, wild garlic and fresh Dorset countryside, and he brought such a lovely, gentle energy to the shoot.

Saxon did need to stay on lead throughout the session, which is absolutely fine and something I work with often. I have edited the lead out of the final images so his gallery still has that natural finished look. Dogs never need to be off lead to have beautiful photographs taken, and Saxon is the perfect example of that.

This session was such a special one to capture. From rescue puppy to beloved family dog, it was so wonderful to photograph Saxon again and see just how well life has turned out for him.
