Skye the Cane Corso

Spring is one of my favourite times of year to photograph dogs — the light gets softer, the woods burst into colour, and there’s a certain magic in the air (and underfoot) when the bluebells arrive.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Skye, a gentle giant of a Cane Corso, in a quiet patch of bluebell woodland near Wimborne, Dorset. If you’ve ever met a Cane Corso, you’ll know they’re powerful yet soulful, and Skye was no exception. With her wise eyes, expressive ears, and joyful energy, she was a dream to photograph from start to finish.

We wandered through carpets of soft purple blooms as the golden afternoon light filtered through the trees. Skye trotted and sniffed, rolled and posed — one minute regal, the next totally goofy — especially when she found the perfect stick to show off.

What I loved most about this session was Skye’s natural confidence and curiosity. Whether she was bounding through the greenery or sitting peacefully in the dappled light, she was completely in her element. It’s moments like these that I live for — capturing the true spirit of a dog in a setting that feels like home.

🌿 A quick note: We took great care to respect the environment during this session. Bluebells are delicate and easily damaged, so we stuck to established pathways and clearings wherever possible to protect the flowers and the woodland for others to enjoy.

Skye’s gallery ended up filled with a mix of action shots, close-up portraits, and candid in-between moments that show off her personality — strong, playful, and full of heart.
