Rafa and Roger

Some dogs arrive at a photo shoot and instantly bring the energy, character and personality. Rafa and Roger, the most fabulous Standard Poodle brothers, did exactly that.

I met these two gorgeous boys at Sandbanks Beach for a shoot that was all about showing a different side to them. Rafa and Roger are no strangers to being photographed. Their owners told me they can often be seen strutting through the streets of London, looking every bit as stylish as you would expect from two Standard Poodles with serious presence.

But Dorset beaches? That is where they really come alive.

Give Rafa and Roger sand, sea air and a ball, and they are completely in their element.

Rafa is an athletic powerhouse. Fast, strong, focused and full of explosive energy. He absolutely flew across the beach, launching himself after the ball with so much determination. Roger, on the other hand, has endless stamina. He is the kind of dog who looks like he could keep running all day and still come back asking for one more throw.

Together, they were brilliant to photograph.

There was running, jumping, catching, chasing, splashing and plenty of sandy paws. The beach gave us the perfect space to let them show off their natural movement, and Sandbanks made such a beautiful backdrop with the sea, rocks and soft coastal colours behind them.

One of my favourite things about photographing dogs like Rafa and Roger is capturing that mix of elegance and chaos. Standard Poodles are such incredible dogs. They have this naturally stylish look, but underneath all those curls and perfect grooming are proper athletes who love to play.

These two were full of character from start to finish. One minute they looked like beach models posing with their family, the next they were racing across the wet sand with their ears flying and reflections beneath them.

And the ball obsession? Very real. I completely understand why their owners joked about how many balls they lose each week!

This shoot was a lovely reminder that every dog has more than one side to their personality. Rafa and Roger may be city boys at times, but on the beach they were joyful, playful and completely free.
